Salmon Caesar Salad

An easy weeknight recipe full of hearty greens and tender salmon and caesar dressing.

Caesar salads are a family favorite around here. We love them because they’re tangy, crunchy, and flavorful. They also only require a few ingredients rather than your whole kitchen.

Some of my recipes are born out of a lot of planning and research. I like to bring you things that I’ve thoroughly tested and are easy to make.

This recipe however was born out of looking through the refrigerator, realizing I only had a few ingredients, and really needing to make dinner fast.

I love this take on Caesar salad, and I think that it’s fun and a little bit different than what people are probably normally used to.

How to cook salmon for caesar salad

This recipe uses salmon as the protein for the salad. I actually just air-fried my salmon, to make things easier for myself. 

I seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a tiny bit of oil and cooked it at 375, for about 7 minutes. We typically eat salmon medium-rare. 

Be sure to check the temperature of your salmon to make sure it’s cooked properly. Medium rare is 110 degrees Fahrenheit to 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

This recipe doesn’t require many ingredients but there are a few:

  • 4 ounces of Salmon
  • 4 cups of Kale
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 tablespoons Caesar dressing
  • 1/4 cup Croutons
  • Grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (to your liking)
  • 1 teaspoon Avocado oil 

How to make salmon caesar salad

Season salmon with avocado oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Air fry salmon skin side down at 375, for about 7 minutes. Medium rare is 110 degrees Fahrenheit to 125 degrees Fahrenheit.

Then, while the salmon is cooking, massage the kale with a teaspoon of avocado oil until it’s completely coated and tender to the touch. It will shrink down in volume.

Once the salmon is done, I top the caesar salad with the salmon, dressing, croutons, parmigiano-reggiano salt, pepper and toss it until everything is well coated. 

Then, I serve the salad and enjoy! 

What kind of lettuce or greens should I use for caesar salad?

Typical caesar salads use romaine lettuce. I actually chose Kale for the base of my salad. Y’all probably know I’m coming around on Kale. 

The key to kale (I mention it in all of my recipes that use kale) is to massage the kale, which helps break down the fibers and make it less of a chore to chew.

It always makes it better. 

What kind of cheese should I use for caesar salad?

We always have a triangle of parmigiano  reggiano as my house.

It’s salty, sweet and a little nutty, which works perfectly for caesar salad.

I just use a potato peeler and peel it into thin chunks. 

Overall, this is an easy salad to make, and you can use almost any protein to change it up.

  • Change up your protein if you’d like, but salmon is a great start

  • If you are keto, you can leave the croutons off. For low carb eaters, the croutons don’t add a significant amount of carbs to the recipe.

    1. Hi Teresa! I used Caesar dressing in this recipe, but feel free to sub for any dressing you’re comfortable with. Since the recipe is a twist on a caesar salad, it doesn’t have certain elements that only pair with caesar dressing.
